Astonishing, but true. Such a dangerous susbstance used so widely, for so long, has left a legacy of potential health problems for generations to come.

The Safety Group provides a wide range of health and safety services to the asbestos industry; If you own, occupy, manage or have responsibility for non-domestic premises, it is your legal duty to manage the risk from any materials containing asbestos under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006.


Those individuals identified as being legally responsible may be found liable for;

* Closure of the premises
* Personal fines of up to £20,000
* Disqualification from Directorship
* A custodial sentence

In Brief, in order to discharge your legal responsibilities you must first carry out an asbestos survey to establish the presence, location, quantity, nature and condition of any asbestos on the premises. Depending on the result, it is a legal requirement that you have a plan for managing any asbestos if found. The Safety Group can assist you by surveying for asbestos and reporting on the findings; this report will indicate whether further action or intrusive investigation is required. The creation of an asbestos management plan in order to allow you to properly discharge your legal obligations would be produced.

Survey Specifics

Type 1 Asbestos surveys are visual in nature and carried out to MDHS100 standard by qualified asbestos surveyors and chartered building surveyors throughout the UK.
(These surveys are visual surveys only and no samples are taken to confirm or dismiss the presence of asbestos)

Type 2 Asbestos survey is a sampling asbestos survey for compliance with the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations (CAWR) 2002.
(These surveys involve the taking of small samples of all materials that would otherwise be presumed to contain asbestos, laboratory testing to confirm or rule out the presence of asbestos)

Type 3 Asbestos survey is a full invasive sampling asbestos survey for compliance with the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations (CAWR) 2002.
(When a type 3 survey is undertaken the asbestos surveyor will conduct an invasive survey which means there will inevitably by some damage caused in the areas affected by the survey)
